Wizard of Ooze & Slappy New Year[edit]

Turns out that these were real; I've inserted a link to the webcast, it's all in the first ten minutes. I'm tempted to speculate that Wizard of Ooze is related to Monster Blood - which was originally created by a witch, right? Also, the fact that Slappy New Year is real perhaps suggests the return of the Morrises? 86.176.139.193 (talk) 09:04, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Oh, and I've heard a rumour that the other remaining HorrorLand title is A Night in the Forest, but take that with a pitcherful of salt. I'd assume that Wizard and Slappy are #5 and #6, so #7 is probably the climax book set back in HorrorLand. 86.176.139.193 (talk) 16:20, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

No, I asked R L Stine on twitter and he said that it's not going to explain how Slappy returned to HorrorLand or what happened to him with Lizzy Morris. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dadestate (talk • contribs) 18:32, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

Stine said on his Twitter today that #19 will be Return to Chiller House. Assuming it doesn't change like The Last Horror did, though. So we presumably know all the titles now - just not which of TWoO and SNY is #17 and which is #18. 86.178.94.146 (talk) 16:39, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

I'm the one that asked him. Say Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Goosebumpsfan2 (talk • contribs) 21:32, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, but now you have to ask him what order the other two books are in. Is Slappy New Year #17 or #18? 86.178.94.146 (talk) 14:27, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Enter/EscapeHorrorLand[edit]

These two sites have been killed, and now redirect to a Scholastic page. The EnterHorrorLand flash is still there - and now no longer seems to dispense a 12th token, funnily enough - but the EscapeHorrorLand material appears to be gone for good. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.178.90.253 (talk) 17:34, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps we can use an archive site or something. --DarkfireTaimatsu (talk) 06:44, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
Internet Archive seems to have most of the text, but none of the images.. fortunately I think we already have all the important quotes; the refs just need to be updated to either link to an archive version, or note that the site no longer exists. 86.178.90.253 (talk) 17:34, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

New HorrorLand table[edit]

The back cover of Ghost Dog is on Amazon.com, and it shows that a lot of the entries on the old table are now redundant; for example, there is now only one tagline on the back, and no HorrorLand token. Here's a suggested new version; I've cut out anything to do with tokens and EnterHorrorLand, and also the concept of 'Featured HorrorLand area' and 'Main attraction,' which were never all that solid for the original series either. If there are no objections, I'll introduce this for the new series. 86.177.46.50 (talk) 12:50, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Plot: Twelve-year-olds Andy and Marnie had a great week in HorrorLand, even though they were freaked out by Murder the Clown and a zombie mob. When the park's Chiller House store offers them a free souvenir they don't ask any questions - despite the shopkeeper saying they'd have to 'pay later'.. Or that their souvenir hound's tooth is said to be haunted. They think it's worth the risk to have a dog's tooth that grants wishes, but when Marnie starts behaving oddly and Andy hears howling at night, they think again about the gift from HorrorLand.[2]
Notes:
  • Go for it. Oh, and book 13 is in my local Borders now. I have a copy in my room, waiting to be read. (Until next time.. Anon e Mouse Jr.) Anon e Mouse Jr. (talk) 21:21, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
Have done. (I was away for Christmas.) 86.177.46.50 (talk) 18:04, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
Oh yeah, Anon e Mouse Jr., how is the book? 86.177.46.50 (talk) 08:58, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
It was.. interesting. Pretty faithful to the concepts laid forth in the original series, except this time, we KNOW that cliffhanger at the end is due to be resolved at some point. (Until next time.. Anon e Mouse Jr.) Anon e Mouse Jr. (talk) 20:00, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
An intriguing summary. I look forward to getting it, although I must admit I'm not inspired by the premise of Little Shop of Hamsters or Weirdo Halloween (although it sounds as if the latter will have the equivalent 'Enter HorrorLand' segment to make up for it). 86.177.46.50 (talk) 22:18, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
Indeed. The third segment of Weirdo Halloween, as the midpoint in this new arc, seems to be where we meet up with the kids who have been returned to HorrorLand by the miniature Horror they were given, and we'll learn something more about what Chiller is up to. Odds are that when the seventh book comes out, it will be set entirely in HorrorLand once again, and we will learn the full truth about the nature of Jonathan Chiller and why he chose to do this. And based on the scene at the end of The Streets of Panic Park, we might be lucky enough to get another visit from the Morris siblings. Seriously, I have the feeling Chiller was behind what popped up in Lizzy's suitcase at the end. (Until next time.. Anon e Mouse Jr.) Anon e Mouse Jr. (talk) 23:25, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
Well, Stine's said that he's writing Slappy New Year. Given that he's doing this whole 'continuity' thing now, I assume he won't just ignore the end of TSoPP. And if that's the case, I am looking forward to it, especially if SNY is in any way inspired by the cancelled Gold book. 86.177.46.50 (talk) 21:33, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Just read #13. Wow, that was actually really good. Except the weird brain-fried segment. Not sure what was going on there. I also noticed a couple of bits of possible Goosebumps self-reference - Marnie being aware of the usual three-wishes screw-up plot, and Andy thinking about Marnie turning into a chicken. 86.176.137.79 (talk) 10:32, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Also, isn't it weird that we haven't heard about books 17 through 19 yet? It's been over four months since you found out about Weirdo Hallowe'en and The Scarecrow Walks At Midnight, Anon E. Mouse; perhaps they wised up and are better at keeping secrets. I guess Stine did mention Slappy New Year and The Wizard of Ooze, but that's not the same as having a release date. We don't even know what numbers those are. 86.176.137.79 (talk) 15:09, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
And of course, right after I write that I find R.L.'s Twitter; he says he finished TWoO on February 2nd. Lots of ooze in it, apparently. He also refers to writing a book in which 12-year-olds get hunted with crossbows (Feb. 8th). Interesting - he talks about writing Slappy New Year way back on December 10th and January 4th/6th. But apparently he wrote Little Shop of Hamsters after that. No way can I rely on Twitter to try and determine the chronology of the new books, sadly.
Haha, awesome, he says that Piano Lessons Can Be Murder was originally about guitar lessons. 86.176.137.79 (talk) 15:33, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Token #12[edit]

This keeps on getting edited, so I want to know what's going on. What colour exactly is the twelfth token, on the back of Panic Park and Terror Tower? On my copy it's gold, but people keep on reverting it to black, and I'm left wondering if this is another thing the British editions changed (like making the Shrunken Head blue for some reason). Amazon.com's Look Inside view of SoPP's back cover makes the token look black, but the whole image is a lot darker so I wondered if it was just image quality. Same question about the message on the token - the image of the token in the SoPP Fear File just says 'Fear Rules In' and there's no second half at all. 86.176.137.79 (talk) 11:11, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

  • None of the last four books to come out (the Welcome Guide, book 13 and the two latest reissues) have had a token half on them. As for the token half from book 12.. it looks like tarnished metal to me. (Until next time.. Anon e Mouse Jr.) Anon e Mouse Jr. (talk) 13:56, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Slappy New Year[edit]

SNY's gone up on Amazon and Scholastic Rights And Co-Editions, and, amazingly, the two have completely different plot synopses. At least the mistake plots on scholsatic for the first arc were just teasers, and the pages were up months before retailer entries! I'm guessing, based on that experience with the first arc, that the Scholastic Rights And Co-Editions plotline is the older one, and the Amazon.com plotline is the one we'll actually get.. which is a shame, as the Scholastic version sounds much better, whereas the Amazon plot sounds like a rehash of every Slappy book ever. But we probably won't know for sure until November. By the way, they both have the same plot listed for The Wizard of Ooze, and it sounds great. ..Aw Hell. Just found Return of the Mummy listed as SNY's companion reissue. What did they choose that one for? 86.178.90.59 (talk) 09:24, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

R L Stine confirmed on his Twitter page that the story is the one about Ray Gordon (June 16th, 2010). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dadestate (talk • contribs) 18:33, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

That's a shame. The other one looked better; the plot we've ended up with sounds like most other Slappy books, and something more original would've been preferable. But I guess we'll have to wait and see. 81.151.102.193 (talk) 11:12, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Semi-protection[edit]

Do I interpret these events correctly? No IP editors can edit this article for a year? ..Guess I'll just post any discoveries I make on this talk page, then. Probably for the best, given just how much vandalism had occurred lately, and by a fairly diverse IP range. 81.151.101.153 (talk) 12:37, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

  • Yeah.. I got sick of the repeated vandalism by that moron who keeps replacing referenced data and adding stuff we KNOW isn't real, and finally requested long-term semi-protection for this article and the List of Goosebumps books article. The talk pages are still open to anyone though. (Until next time.. Anon e Mouse Jr.) Anon e Mouse Jr. (talk) 18:29, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
Okay, fine. If I'm first to stumble across any news, I'll post it here, then. 81.151.101.153 (talk) 14:28, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

I have news! but I'm new to wikipedia, and didn't know where it goes, so I just put it in the article above about Slappy New Year. It's genuinely, officially confirmed, so I guess someone (Who knows what they're doing, unlike me!) should put it up on the Goosebumps HorrorLand Wikipedia page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dadestate (talk • contribs) 18:37, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Synopsis fixed. (Until next time.. Anon e Mouse Jr.) Anon e Mouse Jr. (talk) 20:13, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Amazon.com have updated their Weirdo Halloween and added the back cover and a few pages from the book. The tagline is: 'It's the only one I've ever seen. Maybe the only one on earth'. The fourth HorrorLand enemy is Madame Doom (who is actually a person, not a dummy), the fifth HorrorLand enemy is Winner Taikall. In The Wizard Of Ooze Gabriella's last name is Grant, not Smith, and I think that just about sums up my findings! Good day! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dadestate (talk • contribs) 17:12, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

P.S. Chris and Meg's last name in Weirdo Halloween is Oliver, Scholastics rights and Co-editions advertised them as being twins, however, Chris is actually a year younger than Meg. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dadestate (talk • contribs) 11:27, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Latest news[edit]

Amazon.com lists Revenge of the Lawn Gnomes as coming out in April 2011, presumably as the 'companion' rerelease (insofar as the term means anything any more) to Claws. Also, the Claws footnote needs an h adding to the http in the URL. 86.173.142.76 (talk) 11:56, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the heads-up.. I'll add it to the list in the other article, since SOMEONE seems to have taken it upon themselves to have altered things here. (Which I am not amused by. The original version may be found on my user page.) (Until next time.. Anon e Mouse Jr.) Anon e Mouse Jr. (talk) 09:03, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
Just change the book tables back! As far as I can see, the person who changed it didn't provide a reason. But these books don't have individual book pages, so there's no reason to suggest we should use a table that's less informative. That's not what Wikipedia's about - but being bold is. 86.173.142.76 (talk) 20:52, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
The table was changed to use {{Book list}}. This allows the book list to be included on List of Goosebumps books without having two versions of the same list. This template doesn't stop you from adding more information about the book, but keep WP:PLOT and WP:NFC in mind. d'oh!talk 09:05, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Could you point me to where exactly it says that Amazon isn't a reliable source? It's been an invaluable resource for the past two years on upcoming publications in this series (more so, in fact, than Scholastic's own site, which has frequently proven erroneous), and provides accurate release dates, plot synopses, and cover art. If we can't use it as a source, I'm not clear on how we're meant to reliably source release dates and plot synopses at all, particularly when documenting upcoming books - an activity permitted under WP:FUTURE, since the upcoming books are as notable as any other listed on this page, and are indeed almost certain to exist, as indicated by their presence on marketing sites and by their discussion by the author on his verified Twitter feed. 86.173.142.76 (talk) 20:38, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
As per WP:RS#Questionable_sources: 'Questionable sources are those with a poor reputation for checking the facts, or with no editorial oversight. Such sources include websites and publications expressing views that are widely acknowledged as .. promotional in nature'. In the case of upcoming books WP:FUTURE says: 'Individual scheduled or expected future events should only be included if the event is notable and almost certain to take place.' There are no guarantees that the book will be published on those dates or even get published. A good example is Goosebumps Gold, as far as I am aware the Gold series was never published, but Amazon says it was published in February 2004. d'oh!talk 03:28, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
Personally, I strongly disagree with you and would much prefer things to stay the way they were before you came along. But I have no desire to get booted from this site by launching a flame/edit war, so I will simply continue to maintain my version of this article on my User Page. Good day. (Until next time.. There will be a new goosebumps horrorland series introducing Hall of Horrors [the dark side of Horrorland] and 6 new books [#20-#25].So far, 3 of 6 titles have been released: Claws!, Night of the giant everything, The 5 masks of Dr. Screem, Home sweet horror!, and probably Wonders from the forest, and The last horror? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.16.42.149 (talk) 22:52, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

I've heard it before, I've never been able to find out where the 'Wonders of the Forest' rumour comes from - it doesn't even sound like a Goosebumps book. But here's the real third Hall Of Horrors book: The Five Masks of Dr. Screem: Special Edition Also, a new bonus book which sounds like a fanfiction advice compilation: Write Your Fright—Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.151.97.28 (talk) 20:32, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

January 2011 =news=

Those titles that someone menioned erlier ['Home sweet horror', 'Wonders of the forest' and 'The last horror']probably are not going to air at all. But I do know that the 4th hall of horrors book is called 'How I quit zombie school?' and it's ging to air in September!!!!!! I found it on www.rl.stinefans.com. This one is actually on Amazon now: Why I Quit Zombie School86.161.77.145 (talk) 22:25, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

For some ridiculous reason, the summary of #5 on Amazon gives away the entire plot, including how it's resolved. Don't read it if you don't want to be spoiled. 109.149.180.121 (talk) 11:20, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

Unbelievably, the Amazon.com summary for #6 also gives away the entire plot, including the ending. Don't read it! 86.162.212.202 (talk) 10:13, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

TV Series[edit]

Is this real? I've done a little Googling, read through Stine's twitter for the past week or so, and I can't see anything about it. 81.151.96.85 (talk) 12:49, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

It's most likely speculation. I'm going to remove it. Fearstreetsaga (talk) 19:13, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Merger with Revenge of the Living Dummy[edit]

The Revenge of the Living Dummy article currently contains eight entries in its 'References' section. Of these, three are primary sources (Scholastic) and two are excerpts of the novel itself in various media, leaving only three entries that indicate a secondary source. Of these three, two indicate the same source (Publishers Weekly), so there are really only two secondary sources for the article. A search for further reliable, secondary sources reveals an insufficient amount of significant coverage. As such, Revenge of the Living Dummy should be merged here. Neelix (talk) 04:09, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

  • Oppose - The book passes criterion 1 of of WP:NB, and it is the first book in a notable series by a notable author. Clearly, the book is notable by Wikipedia's standards (it has received more than two mentions in secondary sources too, such as this). In addition, there is enough information presented in the article to justify keeping it; information that would clearly be unuitable for the Goosebumps HorrorLand article. Fearstreetsaga (talk) 16:41, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
As far as I can tell, this book does not pass the first criterion for notability for books. The link you provide is broken when I click on it. I also don't see any material on the Revenge of the Living Dummy article that is sourced by secondary sources and yet would be unfit for inclusion on the Goosebumps HorrorLand article. Neelix (talk) 17:35, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
If we were to add reviews, audiobook info, translations, inspirations etc. for the books to the article, it would be far too long and detailed, and it would give undue attention to the books, considering the article is on the series. Thus, it would be unsuitable here, especially considering the article is detailed enough already.
The first criterion states 'The book has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial published works appearing in sources that are independent of the book itself. This includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, other books, television documentaries and reviews', which is the case here. The Publishers Weekly ([1]) and KidsReads ([2]) review on the book are two examples of these 'multiple, non-trivial published works appearing in sources that are independent of the book itself'. Therefore, it passes the criterion.
To add on to what I said before, this article is in no way complete. There is still info on the background and audiobook that could still be added (such as translations and so on). I really see no reason why these articles should be merged. Fearstreetsaga (talk) 00:21, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
Two brief secondary sources are hardly enough to meet the notability criteria. Furthermore, reviews are exactly what the Goosebumps HorrorLand article needs; at the moment, it only has one secondary source itself. A merger with Revenge of the Living Dummy is quite appropriate. Neelix (talk) 03:57, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
